St. John’s School held its fifth annual Wacky Olympics and Sports Day on Thursday and Friday, March 19 and 20, 2015 with the Green or Pelleus house coming in victorious as this year’s Sports Day winners.
Sports Day is a full morning of competitive games between four knights’ houses, King Arthur (purple house), Sir McCartney (orange house), Sir Lancelot (gold house), and Sir Pelleus (green house). Names of the houses are based on the Knights of the Round Table and King Arthur with the exception of Sir Paul McCartney, a tribute to a modern knighted gentleman and his contribution to the arts. All names were selected by respective houses.
Students from grades 3 to 12 are divided and placed in a house and, in wearing the color of their adopted houses, compete in relay races, obstacle courses, dodge ball, volleyball, futsal, and a dance competition. Lower grades, Pre-kindergarten through grade 2, wore lime green shirts and participated in Wacky Olympics, a series of indoor games manage by parent volunteers. Special guest visitors and presenters included the Guam Skip Jacks and Ifit Guam Sports Center.
Competition between the knights houses will continue throughout the school year. At the end of the year and in keeping with tradition, the house with the most points will be awarded a 4 foot trophy from the previous year’s winner.
