Fire safety made fun

“Hear the beep where you sleep” is the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week, set for October 4-10.

On September 30, local fire fighters paid a visit to our St. John’s K-3 and K-4 students, to teach the children important fire safety measures which included who to contact in an emergency, what to do if you or someone near you is caught on fire, the difference between good toys and bad or dangerous toys, and the importance of smoke alarms.

To the students’ great delight, Sparky the fire dog was there to greet children, hand out fire fighting hats and escort them to the fire truck.  After hearing about each piece of equipment on the fire truck each student had a chance to climb aboard before the special visit ended and they returned to their classrooms.
