Food Allergy Awareness

For Faculty Development on Friday, October 30, staff and educators gathered together to learn important information about food allergies thanks to an informative presentation by Ms. Lucy Joo – Castro, MSN, RN.

A few of the topics covered include how to recognize signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, what to do if a child has mild to severe symptoms, how to properly read food labels for allergens, when and how to correctly administer the epi pen, and the importance of having a food allergy action plan for children at risk of anaphylaxis.

St. John’s continues to manage food allergies appropriately, by educating everyone on handling medical emergencies and taking preventative measures to avoid a student’s exposure to a known food allergen. Physicians, families, and school staff continue to work together to keep our students with food allergies safe.
