Two of St. John’s Symphony Orchestra’s finest violinists were selected to perform under the direction of renowned conductors at the 2017 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the world for both classical and popular music. On February 5, 9th graders Kaela Kim and Elilzabeth Su, along with St. John’s Performing Arts Chair Mrs. Ludy Ko, were able to visit and perform in New York for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“Mrs. Ko and Mr. Babia were extremely supportive and proud of our accomplishments. Mrs. Ko made sure to introduce us to our chaperone and she really took great care of us. From her experience, she told us what to expect and both Mr. Babia and Mrs. Ko helped to communicate to the representatives. We probably couldn’t have attended if it weren’t for Mr. Babia and Mrs. Ko,” said Kaela.
Elizabeth added, “From this trip I learned a lot of things about the city, and it gave me a new outlook on what life is like outside of our island. I think it really helped with my confidence as well.”
These elite musicians will also perform in the Sydney Opera House, Australia this coming summer.
