St. John’s middle and upper school students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), National Honor Society (NHS), and Tri-M Music Honor Society last Wednesday, March 7 in the school chapel. To be eligible for consideration in the honor societies, a student must have a high scholastic average as well as citizenship, leadership, character and service.
The aim of the societies is to encourage others to aspire to scholarly habits, to develop qualities of leadership, to engage in worthy service, to lead in those things which shall advance the welfare of our school and community, and to gain qualities of character.
Alumnus of St. John’s School, Class of 1997, Dr. Luan Nguyen was present in the event as the guest speaker. He concluded his speech with some takeaway notes for the young scholars. He stated, “when studying, make it a habit of asking the hows and whys, and not just memorizing it; know your angle and why you are working towards that ultimate goal because those will guide your decisions; implement the five pillars of scholarship, and dream big.” He added, ” live your dreams bigger than your fears and your actions be louder than your words. The ones that are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones that do.”
During the ceremony, inductees were called to the front as current members lit the inductees’ candles. They were then individually called to sign their names and to receive their certificates and honor society pins.
