St. John’s mathletes took first place at the Math Quiz Competition held during the University of Guam’s 11th Annual Math Day on April 13 at the UOG Lecture Hall. Teammates, Kevin Choi (7th grade) and Jake Tae (8th grade) won first place in the Basic Algebra Category and tenth graders, Alex Leon-Guerrero and Brian Lee took first in the Pre-Calculus/Calculus Category.
With a pencil and paper, teams of two were asked to solve math problems and trivia questions in front of a live audience. The use of a calculator was prohibited throughout the whole competition. The Math Quiz Competition provides an exciting platform for students to showcase their math skills.
