As Session 1 of the Summer Knights Program comes to an end, Session 2 is just around the corner, kicking-off on July 8. Through St. John’s summer program, students have an opportunity to stay physically and mentally active while learning something new over their summer break. The first session began last June 12 with a diverse group of children from Guam and other neighboring countries like Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to name a few.
Children from PreK3 through high school may participate in the myriad of academic and enrichment courses the Summer Knights Program offers.
Kinder Camp (PreK3- Kindergarten) is designed especially for three to five-year old children that presents a variety of courses emphasizing hands-on learning, intentional play and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
Summer Program Coordinator, Mrs. Ria Torres explained, “Students in our Kinder Camp have a day full of fun hands-on, age-appropriate learning activities while building their social skills with their peers.”
Lower School Camp (1st to 4th grade) is an engaging and enriching program that offers a unique balance of academic challenges, creative activities and social interactions in a safe and secure environment. Students have classes that teach Reading, Math, Discovery Science, Art and Chamorro Culture.
Middle and Upper School Camp (5th to 12th grade) provides a series of course selections, encompassing a wide spectrum of academic requirements. This camp provides a unique opportunity to enhance comprehension and increase study skills in the students’ chosen subjects. Students can enroll in academic courses of their choice, ranging from Reading, Math, Science, as well as electives such as Coding, Art, Survival Skills, Swim, and Golf.
English Academy (1st-12th grade) is a suite of English language acquisition courses that focus on grammar, vocabulary building, writing, speaking, reading and listening – ideal for students who would like to learn the English language in an engaging environment. The camp is for all the visiting students with a visitor’s VISA. Courses are tailored to each child’s ability and students learn to communicate using social and formal English in the classroom and through cultural exchange activities.
“The beauty of the academy is the cultural exchange embedded in the program. Once a week, the students learn a little bit about Guam’s culture and traditions while practicing their acquired English. This is a highlight to the camp and is sure to draw many young visitors who would like to enjoy the island and learn English,” Mrs. Torres added.
Mr. Jeremy Rojas, whose son is attending the Lower School Camp expressed how pleased he is with the summer program. “Our son, Jeremy Thomas is excited every morning to attend and every day after school, he shares the new things he has learned in his Survival Skills class. He has sharpened his skills in the core subjects and has fun at the same time. The staff and teachers are great. The program is just outstanding!”
Classes are from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Parents have the option to enroll their children in full day (8AM to 3PM) or half day classes (8AM to 12PM). Each class is 2 hours long, with fun activities happening each day.
Session 1 ends on July 3 and Session 2 runs from July 8 through July 31.
