Maria Francesca Garcia has been named valedictorian and Felix Gong, salutatorian of St. John’s School Class of 2022.
Maria Francesca Garcia was a member of the Service Club (2019-2022), Service Club – President (2020-22), Glee Club (2018-2022), Glee Club – Secretary (2019-20), National Honor Society (2019-2022), Tri-M Music Honor Society (2019-2022), Model United Nations Club (2018-2022), SJS Environmental Club, Chemistry Club – Secretary (2020-22), Spanish Club (2021-2022) and Upper School Orchestra Flute Section (2019-2022) and Upper School Orchestra – Flute Section Leader (2021-2022).
Outside of St. John’s School, Garcia has been a member of the St. Cecilia’s Youth Choir at the Santa Barbara Catholic Church for about six years and serves as the assistant choir director.
She plans to attend the University of California, Irvine to pursue a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering degree with a pre-med track.
Felix Gong, the class salutatorian, was a member of the SJS Tri-M Music Honor Society – President (2019- 2022), SJS Orchestra – Teacher’s Assistant (2018-2022), SJS Glee Club (2018-2022) Treasurer (2021-2022), SJS Japan Bowl Team (2018, 2020), SJS Mock Trial Team (2018-2020), SJS Golf Team (2018, 2019, 2022), and the SJS Japanese Club. He was also a National Merit Finalist, Presidential Scholar Semifinalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction.
Off-campus, Gong has been part of the Tumon Bay Youth Orchestra (2018-2022) Steering Committee Secretary (2021-2022), Guam Territorial Band Youth President (2019-2022), and the Guam Symphony Society (2018-2020).
He plans to attend Yale University and is deciding between Economics and Engineering.
Garcia will deliver the valedictory address, and Gong will give the invocation at the commencement ceremony on May 28.
