2022 Scholarship Winners Announced

St. John’s School would like to congratulate the inaugural recipients of the Terry Reffell Art Scholarship, Noah’s Science Scholarship, and the Thomas Pearson Mathematics Scholarship.

Applicants of the Terry Reffell Art Scholarship and Noah’s Science Scholarship were required to submit an application letter explaining why they would be a good candidate, a recommendation letter from either a former or current teacher of the subject (science or art), and must have a minimum grade of 90% in their science or art class of SY 2021-2022. 

The Terry Reffell Art Scholarship of $5000 was awarded to Liam Padua of the 11th grade. Named in memory of upper school art teacher, Ms. Terry Reffell, the art scholarship is awarded to a St. John’s School student who excels in the arts.

Noah’s Science Scholarship of $5000 was awarded to upper school junior, Taiyo Tagami. Noah’s Science Scholarship, sponsored by former St. John’s Board of Trustee member, Dr. Saied Safabakhsh, is given to a student with exceptional academic performance in the field of science.

The Thomas Pearson Mathematics Scholarship was awarded to one student per grade level, beginning 6th grade to 11th grade for the 2021-2022 school year. Recipients of the mathematics scholarship were chosen by the donor, Thomas Pearson. Pearson was a long-time St. John’s School mathematics teacher who began working in 1994 and retired in 2021. Students were selected based on academic performance in their mathematics classes taken in SY 2021-2022 and were further narrowed down by grade level.

The Thomas Pearson Mathematics Scholarship was awarded to Elise Magcalas (7th grade), Jeff Zheng (8th grade), Jia Peters (9th grade), Ray Suplido (10th grade), Jacob Jackson (11th grade), and Kiana Ng (12th grade). All six students each received $1000 toward their school tuition.
