St. John’s Tri-M Hosts Tribute Concert for Frontliners

The St. John’s School Tri-M Music Honor Society hosted a tribute concert on Sunday, February 5 in the Dale J. Jenkins Gymnasium. The Si Yu’us Ma‘åse Tribute Concert was organized to honor our island’s frontliners for their unfaltering commitment to serving the people of Guam.

Tri-M president and upper school senior, Blase Ramos, wanted to thank the frontliners by collaborating to put something together for them. “Having a number of frontliners as close friends and family really inspired me to go through with this event and thank them for all they’ve done to allow everyone to be able to go out and attend events like this,” stated Ramos.

He further added, “They (frontliners) have been there from the beginning and have continued to do the work even up until now. I wish to congratulate and thank them for everything they have done for our island.”

Frontliners and concertgoers enjoyed an afternoon of musical entertainment showcasing orchestral and choral music, including various jazz and pop band performances.

The concert kicked off with the Head of School, Ms. Patricia Bennett, giving the welcoming remarks, followed by the prayer presided over by upper school teacher, Mr. Ivan Pineda, and a solo saxophone performance of Amazing Grace by Kayden Wong, honoring those who passed due to COVID-19. Ms. Krystal Paco-San Agustin, Communications Director at the Office of the Governor, was also in attendance and expressed her gratitude to the frontliners and the island community for their collaborative effort in getting Guam on the other side of the pandemic.

The event continued with performances from the St. John’s School Symphony and String Orchestra, SJS Concert Band, SJS Glee Club, Una Voce Choir, Banda Kerida, Exothermic Reaction, and Magis.

The concert concluded with a joint performance of The Beatles’ Can’t Buy Me Love Medley.

Frontliners from different agencies were welcome to attend this free tribute concert. Emcees during the event were upper school seniors, Justine Xu and Blase Ramos.

Ramos would like to thank Mrs. Ria Torres and Mr. Norman Babia for their help in putting together the event. He also thanked the Una Voce Choir, Magis, and all the performers for their cooperation, enthusiasm, and energy during the event. “Special thank you to my Tri-M members for allowing me to put together an event like this as their President,” conveyed Ramos.
