SJS Sophomore Honored by Walt Whitman Birthplace Association

St. John’s School upper school sophomore, Rina Olsen, has recently been selected as a co-Grand Champion in Category D (Grades 9 & 10) for her poem, “House of Cards,” in Walt Whitman Birthplace Association’s 37th Annual Student Poetry Contest.

“I am large…I contain multitudes” is this year’s theme. Entrants were asked to use their poetic voice to express the multitudes contained within themselves.

As a Grand Champion, Olsen has been invited to read her poem at the Student Poetry Contest Awards Celebration on May 21st at the poet’s birthplace in Huntington Station, New York.

Congratulations, Rina!
